Our 3-step guide to getting your job-hunt going this Christmas

In the words of Slade, IT’S CHRISTMAAAAAAS! Wham are on the radio, the John Lewis advert is playing endlessly on TV, and the more disorganised amongst us are starting to panic about our total and utter lack of Christmas shopping. Christmas is a time when we can take a break from the pressures of work and, for many of us, it’s the last thing we want to be thinking about whilst we’re eating our turkey. Nonetheless, the festive period presents a real opportunity for those looking for a new position in the New Year – here’s our 3-step guide to making the Christmas period work for your job-hunt.

Use the break to get your CV sorted

If you’re currently in a job and looking for something new, the chances are your CV won’t be up-to-date with your most recent position or any recently-obtained qualifications. Getting this up to scratch, along with other bits like your LinkedIn profile and your job-board accounts, can be a time-consuming task, and the Christmas break offers a perfect chance to sit down and get this all sorted so that you’re ready to go in the New Year.

Capitalise on the lack of competition

Job-hunting can be a stressful process, and many people will use the holidays as a chance to take a break from it, presenting an opportunity for proactive job-seekers to get their CVs in front of people who are still actively recruiting. Most recruitment agencies, including Kingsgate, stay open for the majority of the Christmas period (no rest for the wicked!), so it’s a great time to keep pursuing new opportunities – you’ll be at a major advantage over those who don’t!

Get your CV out there in time for the January rush

It’s well-known that January is a big month for job-hunters – the New Year seems like a good opportunity for a fresh start, and the festive period provides ample time for people to reflect on their career and think about moving on to pastures new. The flip-side of this, of course, is that lots of companies are in a position where they need to find replacements for wantaway employees, meaning there’s often a huge number of positions available.
